Revenge of the Fallen [Jun. 24th, 2009|07:48 am]
Okay, just got out of the new Transformers movie.

Action: Good. Lots more of it. The entire movie was (I kid you not) made by Michael Bay during the writers strike. He made a series of action battles and when the strike was over he got writers to string them together. Seriously.

Plot: See above point.

Over all it was enjoyable, however it is marred by a few things... well that's understating it.

I normally don't cry foul at a lot of things and shrug off offensive material fairly easily. Most of the time I either just don't see it for what it is, attribute most of it to "harmless" stupidity, or over-sensitive interest groups wanting to see ammo that isn't there.

However... I have to call it. Transformers 2 is OVERTLY Racist.

There are two characters in the movie, Skids and Mudflap, that are voiced (by a white actor) to sound like a cross of old-timey blackface shows and urban "street." I half expected one of them to turn and say to Prime, "Yesum Massa, wes a gonna shoot da lasaz! Oh Mammy!" It was that embarrassingly bad. Not to mention that their features include gigantic ears and buck teeth, one being fucking gold. Not kidding.

It was truly painful to watch any scene with them in it. And get this... they are Illiterate. ILLITERATE. They are asked to read something and both say "uh yeah, we don't read." FUCKING HILARIOUS RIGHT?!

All I wanted was 2 (not the actual 3) hours of robots shooting at each other. There was some awesome moments of that very thing, but dammit, why did I have to be made to feel that freaking uncomfortable in the meantime?

So yeah, the rumors were right, it's racist. It really bothered me to the point that I can't recommend giving any money to this film, despite the few admittedly awesome robot action moments.

Yeah...this. I just finished watching it, and am glad that someone else paid for the ticket. I'm not sure what was more painful. Watching the terrifically racist robots, or hearing everyone in the theater laugh their fucking heads off at them.
